Is a sticky or loose accelerator cable dangerous?

The pedal alternates between being slightly sticky and having a slight amount of play. Does it require immediate attention?

Yes. Find out what the problem is now. It may be something that doesn't need attention RIGHT NOW...but you do need to know either way.

The last thing you want is to either not be able to get going fast enough, OR having your engine racing and you not being able to stop without blowing your engine.

If its automatic get it fixed as soon as possible. If manual transmission you can hold the clutch pedal down if accelerator sticks
