Lived in Israel for 3.5 years. That was in the early 1980s. I was there during the invasion of Lebanon in 1982.

Had trouble twice. Once, when I told an Arab kid in the Old City of Jerusalem to get lost who was bothering me to buy some trinket from him. He started cursing me out. The second, somebody threw some gravel at our car in the West Bank.

I worked there and had constant contact with people.

I have visited Egypt, and spent most of my time in Cairo. I did not really have that much trouble, the people were for the most part friendly. Cairo is use to having tourist and is therefore well prepared for them, and most people are used to seeing tourist walking down the street. I interacted with the people some, talking with various locals in the city. I did not have any troubles, other than probably being ripped off quite a few times and having to pay more than I officially should have, but this is sort of to be expected. Also, I did lie a few times and say I was British. Sometimes, before people will tell you how much something cost, they ask you where you are from, which is usually a good indication you might want to suddenly become Canadian. On the whole however, no real trouble and there was tons of wonderful stuff to see.

I lived in Saudi for most of my life 14 yrs. its still very traditional and not quite ready for tourists like everyone else said. The people are nice but not very friendly. It is a very closed society.

I also lived in Syria for three years as well. Its a much better place for tourists, it has many historical architectural ruins that many people find fascinating. The city is a mix of old and new. The buildings are made in the traditional stone. It has its famous covered souks, and the best food of the middle east. People do gawk at foreigners but that's because they don't know any better. That's just the culture. You also need a tour guide that speaks Arabic otherwise its very difficult to get around and figure out the money, which isn't too hard.

I've also visited Lebanon which is the most ready for tourists, but as of the present time..its not ready for anyone to visit. People are nice and speak a mix of English, french and Arabic. So its easy to get around. And it has modern clubs and traditional food and nice restaurants...but ya..not the time right now.

I've also visit Egypt which is also nice. But very hot. You can't go during the summer its torturous. Its also more tourist friendly.

The Western international regards the jap international in this style of wierd way. lifestyle is distinctive. a procedures be it for me The Westerner to tell The Easterner how they'd desire to habit their lives.
