I am assuming that your question is: "Is it alright to ask your ex-boyfriend to pay back the money you lent to him while you were still together."
If it was a loan, then yes. A loan is expected to be paid back. If you made it clear to him when you gave him the money that it was a loan, not a gift, then he is obligated to return it.
If he refuses, and you have no proof that you lent it to him (witnesses or a written agreement), then there isn't much hope for getting it back. If you lent him a lot of money and he is refusing to pay it back, and you have proof that it was a loan and not a gift, then you could take him to court and demand that he repay it. This happens a lot on court shows like Judge Judy.
If you never told him that you expected him to pay you back, then it is considered a gift and you can't expect him to repay you.
If you are going to ask for the money back, try doing it without confrontation if possible - send him a letter, email, or leave a phone message. If you don't get a response, don't just charge into his place of work as you could easily get him in trouble. If you feel safe, you can approach him at home, or if you don't, have him meet you in a public place and bring a friend with you.

I have been in your situation before and regardless if you are still together or not he did borrow the money off you with the understanding that he would pay it back to you. If it was the other way around, I am sure he would approach you for it. First look at him as an friend, this way you can keep your cool, you can even call him or meet for coffee in a public place. As long as your not planning to dump allot of emotional baggage on him and keep it simple you should be fine. A word of wisdom.."Honey is sweeter than vinegar" Hope this helps.

No you have to show him that your independent with you doing that that just shows that you can't do good by yourself. Find a way to get the money from somebody else but not him because then he's gonna be like oh you need money from me and probably embaress you some how.

Why can't you just call him and say "hey, I need the money you borrowed?" If was a real man in the first place, you wouldn't have to ask, but since you do, just be straight up!

Unless you have a signed contract regarding him paying you back this money you should just forget about it. Consider this a lesson learned that when it comes to friends and family you don't loan money, you give they money to them and if they happen to pay you back then that is a nice bonus.
