I made a "road trip" CD for my brother in law & his songs were:

"Too Much Time on My Hands" by Styx
"Running With the Devil" by Van Halen
"Layla" by Eric Clapton
"I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Haggar
"Modern Love" by David Bowie
"Fortunate Son" by CCR

Some others I put on a "Road Trip volume 2" CD:

"All Right Now" by Free
"Beatin' the Odds" by Molly Hatchett
"Ah! Leah!" by Donnie Iris
"Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones
"Baba O'Reilly" by The Who

Have fun! I love making up CD compilations!

So many I don't know where to start!!
I would recoment the following:
Sweet home Alabama, Lynard Skynard
Two Princes, Spin Doctors
Everything about you, Ugly kid Joe
Hazard, Richard Marx
Stand and Deliver, Adan and the Ants (cheesy I know!)
You took the word right out of my mouth, Meatloaf
Welcome to the Jungle, Gun n Roses
There are so many great tracks for driving to on a sunny day, Good luck!

If you're looking for something a bit more rock like than easy listening, check out 'Ready Steady Go' by Paul Oakenfold. It was used for the car chase scenes in The Bourne Identity/Supremacy.

Without a doubt, Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55."

You'll also find many excellent driving songs among the oeuvres of Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. I'd give the edge to "Refugee" and "Born to Run," respectively.
