II bit my nails for 35 years. It is a VERY Difficult habit to break, since they are RIGHT THERE.
My advice: have your nail tips done-solar or French or American. They are very hard plastic and it is very hard to chew on them. and expensive, and probably poison.
I have had fake nails for over 10 years and never had any problems, but if one breaks, I will STILL chew my fingernails.
It is my only solution.
If you continue to chew your cuticles or chew the nails, you might try to get medication from a doctor.for compulsion control or "nerves." Good luck!!

I'm 17 years old and I have been biting my nails for as long as I can remember. It truly is an awful habit, and I've tried everything. The bitter nail polishes, acrylic nails, everything failed. I have NO will power at all, but for the past few weeks I've managed to stop cold turkey. I painted my nails black, so that I can't see the growth, because in the past everytime I would be doing ok I would see my progress and just need to bite them back down. Of course chewed down black nails don't look too great at first, so I wouldn't reccommend doing it if you have an important social event comming up, but otherwise its workied like a charm for me. Try it, its really worked for me!

Acrylic nails.

I bit my nails for about 20 years. When I got acrylics, I still chewed on them a few times, broke a couple, popped a couple off, then got sick on having to pay to have them fixed.

In addition, when you bite an acrylic and it breaks, it looks and feels awful. When they break, they always break very uneven and jagged. The only fix is a nail file, but who carries one with them all the time? There is absolutely no way to chew them smooth. So after walking around all day with an ugly, sharp, annoying snaggle nail a couple times- you'll be very motivated to keep your mouth off of them.

I kept them for about a year, I don't have them anymore, but I broke the habit and don't chew my nails anymore. I do every once in a while catch myself chewing on my cuticles, but it is nothing like the nail biting habit I once had.

Best of Luck!

Put bandaids on your fingertips and find something else to do when you get the urge to bite your nails. If you know what's triggering the urge, remove the 'trigger'.

Good luck!
