I have no previous experience with publishing and I am still relatively young. I am currently working on a Fantasy novel and I have so far had positive feedback, so the project continues. Can anyone tell me: How I can get my book published and made sure that I am not breaking copyright laws? Also the best publisher to begin with?

First off prepare yourself for a lot of rejection.

Next make a lengthy list of publishers just go to the library and note down some who've published similar books. Get at least 40.

Final step: go down the list one at a time sending your ms with a covering letter. If you can find out if they have a preferred format for your manuscript.

Self-publishing could be a good option. Do a search online for "self publishing" & sites will pop up.

Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* The Self-Publishing Manual: How to Write, Print, and Sell Your Own Book, 14th Edition by Dan Poynter
* Complete Guide to Self Publishing: Everything You Need to Know to Write, Publish, Promote, and Sell Your Own Book (Self-Publishing 4th Edition) by Tom Ross
* Smart Self-Publishing: An Author's Guide to Producing a Marketable Book, 3rd ed. by Linda G. Salisbury, Jim Salisbury
* Self-Publishing For Dummies by Jason R. Rich

There are lots of free informational resources out there as well. Check the source box for links to articles.

Also, be sure to copyright your work. You can do this at the US Copyright Office. Go to the last link in the source box for Literary Works. The application is fairly simple & the cost is $45 per application.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

to be honest, because of the surge in famous dude's biographies being bought by women (as according to an article in the Times), it is not a very good time at all for trying to get published because publishers are unwilling to take risks, and they believe that ppl want biographies of famous ppl that can't write, so i'd say finnish it and wait for a couple of years till this fed dies down, or become an established writer by paying for your own publishing costs, (sadly can be up £2000 or even £3000, depending on wot u want to do), but this is a sure-fire into the business, if your book sells well, then publishers will definately take notice of you, when you want to get your second one published (i personally have been researching all this, because i too have been writing a novel, a philosophical horror, with fantasy and sci-fi elements, sounds mixed up, but that which is mixed up can do well if written correctly, sumtimes better than the unmixed(and at that i too, am rather young still))

I would suggest self publishing like I did.
I published with iuniverse.com which is an affilate of Barnes and Noble.
They helped me to design my book cover and everything.
It's also a great way to at least get your book out there for the big publishing houses to see.

There's a website called lulu.com that allows you to publish your own work for free and actually order your own book for about $7 a copy. You could start there.

I agree! i won't be able to believe that folk might want to be so impolite and ask the position they can get books for loose. it is the equivalent of asking "hi, am i able to scouse borrow your bag? ok, thanks." Argh! it isn't any longer as if books are severe priced, both; ok, so hardbacks are a touch severe priced, yet maximum folk of books those days are revealed paperback, the position the most severe priced you're going to get one is about £8.ninety 9. And if it is costing that a lot, it is possibly properly worth it! each and every time I see those who're asking about the position they are able to looking loose books on line, I tell them that it is unlawful and they are stealing in the adventure that they obtain some thing for loose. no longer purely that, yet who might want to favor to study a e book on the computer? Ew. If a e book isn't in e book variety, it isn't any longer properly worth reading in my view.

First visit http://www.copyright.gov and get your work registered so you have a legal leg to stand on if you get ripped off. Then shop around for a good publisher who is willing to work with you to get your story into publishable form.
