I am asking because it seems that the mainstream media has begun to adopt the use of Hizbolla over Hezbollah, although to the best of my knowledge, Hezbollah is the correct spelling. I have noticed in the past that the mainstream media will intentionally mis-spell or mis-pronounce words in order to display a certain desired "meaning" or "slant", however I don't see what the advantage would be to use Hizbollah ove Hezbollah.
Dictionary. com has the same definition for both spellings, but Wikipedia has only a definition for Hezbollah.
A quick search of the web on Google suggests that most "reputable" news sources are using the "e" variant.

when you transliterate, translate between languages without the same alphabet, you can pretty much come up with anything. for example, Tao Te Ching is actually pronounced Dow De Jing.
decades ago, our reporters had good reason to screw this up, because "hezbollah" was new and nobody knew anything about it.
today, we are just lazy in keeping with tradition.
it is two words, probably hyphenated would be the right way to go. the spelling can be anything, but the true pronunciation, which you will never hear on tv or the radio is:
Hizb-Allah
it means, "party of God"
just for the record, Hamas is seriously pronounced like the words ham and *** put together, there is no "ah" sound in either syllable. the news just screws up there as well. like taliban.

"Spelt" is not a an American word, here it is "spelled." I do not know if it is an actual English word. There are some differences between American English and British English, so as I said it could be correct where you live. You should check a local dictionary to find out if it is listed.

Its an English transliteration of an Arabic word, so both spellings are probably right (or more likely, they are both wrong). For other examples of this, look at the naming of Beijing/Peking by the Brittish.
