I need something for my 7 year old son to do to occupy him as he is very lively, full of life.... He likes the sound and pictures of extreme sports and would like to try these, but I wouldnt....also, I have no money....what can he do or what can I do to help him take his mind of his problems that incorporates something he would like that I could afford and enjoy with him?

Adults can volunteer to help D of E groups. Children can't join a D of E group until they are 14.

Like someone else suggested, cubs or beavers (can't remember the age groups for these) is one option?

There is also the The Adventure Service Challenge. This covers

Adventure - discovery, exploration, leisure pursuits, creative attitudes and skills for life.
Service - concern for others, opportunities to serve those in need.
Challenge - progressive training activities with achievable targets.

It's like the D of E but for younger people but it does start from 8 years old. I don't know much about it but local authorities (councils) normally operate D of E groups and my local council operates the ASC too. http://www.asc-scheme.org.uk/asc-intr.htm

What on earth are you doing to the innocent boy? Duke of Edinburgh Award? what good does that do to him? can he sell it for a toppence? Listen honey let the boy let out his potential in whatever he likes as long as is not bank robbery on the days I visit the bank. What is wrong with extreme sport? do you know how much money they make let alone the feeling when they raise his hands in front of a stadium full of crowd then you see tears of joy coming down his little cheekies, why trying to destroy his future. Do you think he will forgive you for that when you are gone and left him with just a Duke of Edinburgh Award that he cannot sell for a £1 in a booty. For extreme sports you dont even need to have money. He can use his regular trainers and shorts and t-shirts to begin with until he started hitting the top with loads of money coming in and just think about the house he will be able to afford to buy you and holidays he will be sending you to.

How about the Scouts? They do lot of different activities. When he's 13 he could join a Cadet force such as the Air Training Corps (ATC) which will give him lots of opportunitites for Adventure Training, Flying, D of E and much much more! You can become a member of staff with these organistaions. There are usually different levels of Adult volunteer (definitely in the ATC!) who are all equally important.
