Favorite move has to be "Breakfast Club" , my favorite television show was Murder She Wrote and Miami Vice. I like some of the shows that play on tv now, but mainly just the cop/investigation shows like "The Shield" or "CSI", Law and Order "SVU", etc
The movies now I watch because i am looking for that perfect horror movie, or the movie that is going to be perfect for my kids to watch about something they can really relate to. but now all the movies I watch are kinda boring and had nothing to do with what is going on in real life today. Don't get me wrong I like the LoTR, Star Wars, Superman, X-Men, etc I love that but where are the real scary movies, the real movies with real life drama, oh yeah it was "Crash" forgot about that one. But Weatherman, Lord of War, Hostel, Saw, Cheaper by the Dozen (cute but no), etc.
Sorry got off course, so the movies today are more about visual effects then an actual story line. Give me the classics "Breakfast Club", come on who has not had detention before? "Ferris Beuler's Day Off" come on for us people who were brave enough to cut school don't you wish you could have done some of that stuff if not all of it.
"Miami Vice" was very good. it showed what the dark side of Miami was really like and it shows how Miami got to where it is today. classic tv ;-)
"Murder She Wrote" along with "columbo" and "Matlock", paved the way for all of the investigation show today

Favorite movie - Romancing The Stone (Michael Douglas & Kathleen Turner were so hot, Danny DeVito was hilarious!!!)
Favorite TV Show - Magnum PI - Tom Selleck, 'nuff said.
I watch very little tv these days, but got hooked on CSI Vegas, Law & Order SVU, Third Watch. All excellent shows.
As far as movies - since I have young children, if it isn't rated G, animated or about a cartoon character, I pretty much haven't seen it!!! lmao
I did go see the remake of the Omen & thought it was Excellent!!!
There are a lot of movies & tv shows I wouldn't watch with my kids & a lot of both that are just pure garbage. I dont' like any of the Jap-animation shows & won't let them watch stuff like that. Maybe I'm too strict, but they are both really intelligent kids with way above average vocabularies. So perhaps I'm doing something right. Still, I can't wait till they can appreciate stuff like Tommy by the Who or History of the World by Mel Brooks (excellent films to see stoned) & I really can't wait to take them to see Rocky Horror Picture Show in full costume!!! yee haw!!!

Favorite film: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Favorite TV: Miami Vice (it really was innovative back then)
Some television has gotten better (24, West Wing) while much of TV has gotten worse (most of the reality genre).
In the last few years, films have probably been better than in the 1980s. Not universally, just in general.

Movie: Sixteen Candles
TV: Cosby Show
Movies & TV are just different now. There have been good & bad tv shows & movies in both the eighties and now. However, now some of the best tv shows are only shown on pay TV; shows such as The Sopronos or The L Word.

ferris bueller's day off.
I like dialog movies and I think some of the best dialog movies were from the 80's.
I think television is better now, except for kids' television, that was better in the 80's.
I think movies were better in the 80's but now a lot more independent movies are getting recognition which is great.

Movies and television back in the 1980s had it's
share of violence, but on the whole it was a lot
less then we see now
It bothers me that today's youth are subjected to
a constant barrage of sex, violence and total
disregard for their fellow man (or woman)
Cartoon: Star Blazers
Prime Time: Quantum Leap
Movie: Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back
