The hardest problem is the other road users. If you already drive a car, you might find it a little easier. But it's still real dangerous.
I grew up in England & learned to ride in the late 70's & early 80's. Some people don't survive their first couple of years on a bike - you have to be well aware of you own mortality & aware of how UNaware other road users are. When I came to Phoenix in 1993, I saw what the road traffic was like & decided it was simply too dangerous for a bike.
If you do get a road bike - the one thing you MUST do, is get training. If you want to survive, training is critical. Some people may tell you that they never had training & they do OK on a bike. Unfortunately, the people who didn't get training & who are dead, can't talk to you.
I don't want to just sound like a wimp - I would love to get back on a bike. Back in England, there's a road from Ashbourne to Buxton that was wonderful to ride early Saturday morning, followed by a day's paragliding, followed by a more sedate ride home in the evening :-)
My last 3 bikes were -
Yamaha FZR600
Honda VF750
Yamaha 350 YPVS.

First change your mindset. You don't 'drive' a motorcycle, you ride one. No, it's nothing like a dirtbike. Of course it depends on the size of the bike and a lot of other factors. It's a case of you learn by doing. And some just can't.

Dirt bikes and motorcycles can be similar. However take the good advice from above and take some classes. You ride a motorcycles on the roads with other vehicles ...obviously. Even someone who has ridden one for years can make a mistake. Same thing for driving a car and you take classes for that why not for cycles. If you start with classes and the right bike you'll love it.

Hard to drive, NO but i recomend the class that everystate offers.
I wouldn't suggest going out and buying a GSXR1000 either, i mena you have to be smart about it. Get a smaller bike to learn on!
as far as is it the same as a dirtbike, NOPE
it is completely different! But equally as fun!
Take the course, its like 100 bucks, Worth every penny!

The main idea is the same as a dirtbike. Just a lot heavier and you're actually in contact with traffic. Be careful!

first of all u dont drive a motorcycle , u ride it..... second ... HELL NO ... a dirtbike is easy as hell, light weight , easy to control.... a streetbike is heavy as hell and hard to turn with.... so if u dont know jack squat about streetbikes ,, id suggest u start with dirtbikes even though ur gonna eat it anyways but at least on a dirtbike its not gonna hurt as much..then after u get the hang of it, do with a streetbike

a motorcycle is not a dirtbike. a motorcycle is easy to drive, but you have to have a lisence for it. and it is dangerous. Always wear a helmet.

the Principal is the same just a lot more weight and a bigger bike,,it takes some getting used to after riding a smaller bike though,,big bikes don't turn as well,,and don't stop as fast as a big bike,,but as far as you learning,it not take long just be care full,a big bike will get away from you a lot quicker that you might think.

it up is a different story though. and you will drop it sooner or later
helmets a must for safety. if you want proof run into a brick wall
