From Farewell My Concubine / To Live / Ju Dou / Raise the Red Lantern to this.... I was sad when she married the Singapore millionaire and stopped acting, I thought the cinematic world had lost one of the greats. But now..... Anyone know what she's thinking???

First of all, if you haven't seen the movie, I think you should wait to call it tripe. Michael Mann has become a very good director (Collateral not withstanding). Second, many actors like to try a variety of roles, not wanting to be typecast but also because sometimes it is just fun. As you say, she probably doesn't need the money, so maybe this was her way of playing. And I am definitely seeing the movie.
