I kind of understand when you are around your boyfriend or a guy you like. They did an episode about it on Sex & the City. But what about around other girls? Even in the bathroom at work, women don't want other women to know they have to go number 2. Whats up with that?

Maybe it has something to do with the notion that women were supposed to be "lady-like" (an attitude which began to change over time) and that normal bodily functions were somehow not very feminine. I read somewhere that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was embarrassed and would run the water in the bathroom if she was doing anything other than urinating.

"Women" aren't "uptight", women in particular cultures and eras are "uptight". From their earliest days of childhood, they are taught to be "uptight" about as many things as possible. A girl who isn't uptight, prissy, and generally neurotic is called a "tomboy" when she is young and outright insulted when she is older. Our culture's ideal of "femininity" is nothing short of a form of mental illness. It is a testament to the strenght of women in general that they manage to retain any level of sanity in the face of what they are expected to pretend to be.

Man, I don't have time for that crap. I could care less about someone else's thoughts and feelings about my bodily functions.

Just society I guess. God bless social programming. "It's not proper for a lady."
