I was driving up a steep hill and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and both the speedometer and odometer stopped working. Everything else is fine though. Any ideas on what would need to be looked into? It's been like this for a while now and I need to get it fixed.

Thanks a bunch for any help.

could be the speed sensor in your transmission
or it could be a more serious wiring problem.
some cars just have a cable instead of a speed sensor, those are easiest to fix.
take it to a garage and get it tested with a computer.

Depending on if you have a mechanical (speedometer cable) or electrical (Speed sensor) system, I'd say that one of those is the problem. Take it to your mechanic and let him check.

Definitely the speed sensor...it should be on one of the wheels. Either attached bythe brake rotor or just behind it attached to the hub assy. Good luck.
