I think class warfare is good, it provides entropy. Without classes, there's no insentive to work harder, so the enconomy doesn't grow, and products and services are worthless. I don't believe communism would be good even if it did work.

No, communism is a form of socio- economics where everyone has equally hard jobs, gets paid equally, and all their money goes to the government. They are provided everything they need with a little extra spending money. In communism, you don't have some extremely poor people and some extremely rich people. The idea is that everyone is equal.
The problem is that because it takes away freedom to accel, a dictatorship is normally required to impliment the system. Another problem is that if the government becomes corrupt, people lose money and EVERYONE becomes poor. Let's say you're a doctor and you're performing surgery. You know that you will get paid the same abount of money each day as the garbage man down the street. Does that make you want to spend your life learning medicine?
There you go. A quick lesson in communism.
If you want an example of socialism, which is the first phase of communism, look at the United States Military. There still exists classes, but people are

paid according to what they do or what they know. Everyone is provided with food and housing, and the government pays them. Now this is a system that works perfectly. You stil have the incentive to work hard and perform better than the next guy. The problem of lack of freedom still exists, though, because the government is in control of their job, their paycheck, and 3/4 of their life. So with a few changes, socialism similar to the military's society might actually work much better.

If one understood what true communism is, not the political version that was in the USSR or in China now, one would find that it has been a viable form of society for a couple of thousand years. Communism in its truest form means everyone works and prospers equally. The Inca of South America had a comministic society, Jamestown was founded on it (No work, no food). The communs of the 60's were also.

While I do believe that some elements of our society should be socialized (basic healthcare and access to medications, free or reduced rates of college and a retirement pension), I just don't think the likes of communism and the ending of class would work. Communism is an ideal system but like most every model of it we have has shown, ideals don't work in the real world. You'd have to have ideal people and lets face it- we're not ideal.
Yes, i will admit that Communism in some forms has worked in the past and present, but its because, I believe, that they are very small models- groups like the Amish practice a form of Communism, for example. But they are not an entire nation.
If we practiced Communism, then we would have to come up with an incentive to drive us to continue high quality. It would mean a radical shift from defining our worth by material goods and class and more towards personal excellence. The only way to do that would be through an almost religious notion that if you waste your life and don't strive to be what you can in order to help others, something bad will happen to you.
I'd also like to take a second to comment on what others have said- that Communism is a dictatorship. No, Communism is an economic model, like Capitalism. It is not to be confused with a political form of government. In the past, the Communist regimes have become totalitarian and created a political body that is a dictatorship. There is no reason why you couldn't have Democracy (fair say for all) in a communistic economical body. Every would share, everyone gets a fair say.

Communism is not possible with a human population. Even in a "perfect" situation, it would fail. It requires that all members of the community sacrifice for the greater good. Unfortunatley, humans are, by nature, greedy and selfish. There will always be somebody that is lazy and does not pull their weight. There will always be sombody that will be greedy and try to take more than their fair share. It's the sad fact of our nature.

Some of the ideology of socialism is reassuring to the poor people of this and other countries because of its focus on the needs of all members of society. Something needs to be done to improve the plight of the poor all over the world and if changes to the governing bodies will be necessary than there is no other choice.

the basic principles of communism are actually very sound, and if implemented totally correctly then it would be a brilliant system. However for it to be implemented totally correctly you can not have any greed in the system, and unfortunately humans are inately greedy little creatures always wanting what someone else has. So not it wouldn't work.

No - It still removes the incentive for hard work. Why work hard when the government will provide for me anyway? Why aspire to get a more challenging job when I will just be supplied what I need to live on?

Communism is Evil. It is evil because people are compelled to do it. There is no choice. You agree or die.
There is no way i would accept communism ever.
