What is the point of TV newsreaders telling us about stock market movements?

I do all my investments on-line and make all my investment decisions myself. I do not speak with a broker on the phone. As for your second question about stock market movements, some investors like to know the trends throughout the day since they may invest more aggressively with a very short timetable... they might hold an investment for just a few seconds to hopefully make a quick profit! Highly risky, by the way, and I don't recommend it.

None. There is no point to getting your broker on the phone either. Learn to read financials, check out the current news for the company, and have a reason for investing in it.

Talking heads are worthless. Brokers are not much better. Make your own investment decisions based on your own DD.
