The panel configuration has three knobs directly under the radio. The left knob is the blower speed on an Off,1,2,3,4,5 scale, the middle knob is the temp selector, and the right knob is the directional selector. And On the right of that, I have the A/C and the rear defrostor button. When I turn the directional selector. The A/C button light comes on and a weak cold air blows in. But when I turn the fan knob, the hot air starts blowing in.

Most likely you're low on refigerant. The compressor won't even engage when too low. You can for about $20 buy a filler hose, and can of R134a and charge it yourself. The ac lines under the hood have quick connect fittings, with a black plastic screw off cover on them. The charge hose will only fit on the correct one, the larger connector. Get the refrigerant with sealer, in case there is a small leak somewhere. I've done a few cars with this and they stayed cold, 2-3 years now and counting.

Go buy a recharge kit at WalMart, they're about 20 bucks and buy an extra can as well. I did this at the beginning of the summer and just followed the directions on the box and my air conditioner works really well. If not I'd be suffering in 100 plus heat.

You could have a leak in the system, but it also could be low on freon. I would take it to a mechanic and let him diagnose the problem.
Over time the system needs recharging. Your mechanic can test the system for leaks and recharge fairly quick.

your AC is out of juice. take it to a dealership or some mechanics have the machine to fill it up.

this happens with older cars quite often. it costs around 40-75 bucks, i just drive with my windows down.
