Before stage1 was finished, the biggest disappointment was...
FRANCE! Those rankings are dangerous ;-)
Here's mine-
1. Referee Ivanov. Being pulled out is always disappointing, but it wasn't a match. Holland has been unlucky. However 2006 WC wasn't so poorly officiated as 2002 (remembering ITA-SouthKorea and SPA-SouthKorea, we could say things are improved...)
2. Press and media campaigns. I agree, columnists is definitively a dirty job, but... Portugal and C. Ronaldo were targets of the English "cheater" campaign. Before semi-final, a German columnist calls Italians (people, not players only) 'parasites'. And
lol
I don't know what Mat says to ZZ - BUT - if you say me 'HEAD-BUTT!' you make me SICK - stop please
lol
3. Brasil - the world best fav was pulled out at their first real test match. But I guess Parreira was the one to blame instead of players. Maybe crowd and media pressure forced him to an highly unbalanced tactics, but could him think it's possible to play with Kaka, Ronaldinho, Adriano and Ronaldo together? Emerson and Ze Roberto are enough to cover a slow defenders line?
Domenech played with a forward only and they won, controlling the match from start to end.
4. Asian teams. I'm sorry, but their performance was poor. Africans were unlucky to me. Cote d'Ivoire was in worst group and they play well. Togue starts with their coach announcing his will to resign because unpaid, however they were winning first match when Abalo was send off and the score was 2-1. Ghana - suicidal offside tactics against Brazil, who can only play with fast break attacks (and scored 2 goals in offside foul too!). If only the could see BRA-FRA before their match, we would had another score...
5. Croatia, Poland, SRC. Poorly performing, UEFA 2008 is the best chance to improve.
6. Few match to speak about players. Ibrahimovic was out of fitness. Brazilians perfectly knew they were such an unbalanced team and they played fearfully.
This 'award' could go to Gallas. After Mat-Zid affair he says he was willing to travel to Materazzi's house and punch him.2006 Gold Children Park Award to him. It' s fully deserved.
;-)

I don't care about the USA. I know they had a sh*tty team and I didn't expect them to do well. I do wish that the refs had been a little - sorry, did I say a little? - a LOT better. France's first goal in the final World Cup match was because of a foul that never existed. I also wish that England had gotten farther. That was embarrassing, that was. And what was with Ronaldinho?

My biggest disappointed was Zidane b/c of what he did in the end. Very poor sportmanship.
Ronaldhino was another disappoint....maybe he's overrated but I had expected him to play a lot better than what he showed at the WC.

first thing is the ref. many people say that they are awful refs. but i look at it from a different angle. i think what they did wasn't because they suck or their poor refs. but FIFA made sure that the refs are seriously strict. many teams suffer from that. for example in the premiership games are played harder and therefore england sometimes conduct alot of fouls which usually wouldn't be called a foul in england.
second dissapointing thing was the english team. well in my country the majority of the people here support england maybe because the premiership is the first european league that was broadcast here. in my country england were the favourite to win the world cup(which i disagree). seeing them perform so badly from match 1 until their exit was a big dissapointment here.
the final thing is brazil's performance. they are my favourite team everybody expected them to reach the final. but they played below their normal quality and the superstars failed to shine. people like ronaldo, ronaldinho and adriano were quite below average. kaka stood out though, but one man can't lead the team to glory

Definitely and without a doubt, Ronaldinho was the biggest bust at this WC. He was no where to be seen.
He should have had a great tournament especially since he was fresh from the Champions League victory.
It would have been fun to watch him if he was on song.

ENGLAND national football team, simply did not perform overall from the first match, poor selection of players especially forwards! although i'm an ENGLAND supporter, i think this tournament has to be the most disappointed. thank God, Sven has gone now!!

oh.. there were lots of disappointlment...
+ Some of the referees who were absolutely against african countries... Especially Ivory cost
+ Ronaldinho's invisibility... not a best-player-of-the-year performance..
+ France's frustrating 1st round
+ Czech republic and Asian countries
+ Zidanes head-butt (not that Materazzi did well .. nooo!! )
+ The fact that people can't stand Italy won the cup... they just didn't see it coming that's all

The head butt heard around the world. Although there was no guarantee that France would have had it on the bag, the chances would have been better had Zidane not done that.
