It depends on whats appropriate and how you want to present yourself.
If you want to project power and authority you should outdress your subordinates. If they wear business casual, then you should go a step above them.
If you're looking for suggestions with exactly what to wear, then a place like "The Mens Wearhouse" is good. The people are usually very knowledgable and helpful. Explain to them how people dress at work and what things you like. They'll tell you whats appropriate and help pick out what you need.

A traditional suit with a conservative haircut in a natural looking hair color, conservative traditional shoes and no jewelry except a dress-type watch, a wedding ring and perhaps a college class ring.
Of course, I make about 20 percent what the CEO does (and of course may be working every known holiday and most nights and weekends while he doesn't), and so I get to wear Hawaiian print shirts with dockers and sneakers and a sports watch and get about five haircuts a year.
Dress the part.

Depends on the business. Golf shirts and Khakis are usually appropriate, but if you're in the entertainment industry, anything will go. Just think about Hugh Heffner, he wears pajamas most of the time.

professionally, i'd imagine at least collar and slacks, if not a suit, the company dress code and your role could allow for a varied dress code
