The belt is hung up or may need a new one. The belt has to be able to jump over to the next gear and its obviously not doing that. Check for socks or other items obstructing the belt but be sure you have everything unplugged first. Hint: to keep belts running smoothly in the future, spray with a little WD-40.
Good luck!

grab the agitator (that's the thing in the middle) and see if it is loose.-it should not wiggle if you try to turn it back and forth, it should be sturdy. If it turns when you turn it, does the center of it stay motionless? (you can see the center by looking at the tip) There are parts in there that break. There are some home made ways to fix it, but you are better off getting it done right if you can afford to. If you can't afford to, let me know and I will give you details.

The belt that is conveyed from the motor to the wash-basket is likely broken, loose, or not present. Remove the covers and see.

It needs to be checked out by a professional, like me. Is it belt driven or a direct drive system? There is more than one thing that could cause the problem.
