..... such as "pacifically" instead of "specifically". Also, thinking it's correct to keep saying "whom" in place of every "who" whether it's applicable or not (because they think it's posh or something).

My particular bugbear is people saying things like 'I should of done that'. No!!! it's 'have' not 'of'!!! Why would it possibly be 'of'???? And 'disinterested' now seems to mean 'uninterested' as well.... again wrong - 'disinterested' means 'unbiased' rather than 'bored with'....

ooh! My favourite bug bear.....

Mis-use of words or malapropisms is very common and usually used by people who think it makes them sound intelligent. WRONG.....
If you're not sure of a word then don't use it.

There is also an increase in "text speak" which to my mind it just laziness - it also make the person using it look extremely dumb.

There are books that you can refer to for spellings and meanings, one is the Oxford English Dictionary and the other is the Thesaurus....

Both very useful for correct use of the English language and if you're are using a computer are easily accessible and should be referred to more often.

If that is all you have come across you should be thankful!
Stupid people breed faster than intelligent ones at a ratio of 5 to 1.
Soon the morons will inherit the earth.
Ooops! Already have. Ref: Bush and Blair.
We are doomed!

The one that really annoys me is the use of text speak on the internet. I understand trying to save letters in messages but just look at some of the language used on this site...

Double negatives too.

Like "I ain't got no".

Don't worry though. In time these will be accepted in the Oxford English dictionary, like all the other ridiculous words and phrases.

It is all part of a general dumbing-down ... most young people(yoof) think that they are being hip and rebellious ... but it is simply that most folk are too lazy to adhere to the rules of grammar.
