Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free software. Tell you what. Just uninstall your Reader and download the latest from the net or it comes packaged in so many software. Try to install a new one. Probably your Reader did not install properly. That's why it is not able to open .pdf files. Best solution. Uninstall the old and install the latest reader. You should not have any problems.

If you have to open a PDF file you have to install Adobe Reader.

I cant think of a logical reason why you cant, I know adobe reader is different than adobe acrobat professional, but it should open the file so you can view it...very strange
