It's not like I'm advocating genocide, war, murder, etc. I am just curious as to what people's thoughts are regarding humankind no longer having children and becoming extinct due to failure to reproduce. Please don't give any answers saying that it wouldn't happen as I'm simply asking in the hypothetical.

An excellent example of this can be seen in P.D. James' book "The Children of Men", which is being made into a movie. In this example, failure to reproduce is involuntary. In my question, feel free to assume any other motives. Thanks in advance.

Yay Deep Ecology! It would certainly facilitate for increased species diversity which would make our Eco system far healthier. I think that we can accomplish that same task by limiting our children output and not making ourselves extinct. There simply need to be fewer humans for the ecological benefits to begin. This can be accomplished though an enviormentaly aware aspect of our education system.

Bad for humanity? Yes. Bad for the Planet, no. It would take thousands of years, but the damage mankind has caused would repair itself. This world would revert to a wild untamed state, perfect for whatever species eventually found and decided to colonize it.

Wally Wood did a story like this for EC comics back in the 50s.

At some point in time our species will die out, just as 99% of all species that existed have. As the fossil record shows, its just a matter of time before we get our whacking from something, perhaps even from ourselves. Bad for us, but for the planet it will be just another organism blinking in and out of evolutionary existance.

Well,it wouldn't be good for us but it would be good for the ecology of the planet. I would prefer that we stuck around
but maybe in the end it'll come to that.
