Just curious. I told them I wanted to spend more time with family. This "reason" seemed to go over really well (non-threatening).

"I'm going back to school"
I've ALWAYS used that. Most of the time it was true (I've gone back to school a lot). The last time it wasn't, but I would have done anything to get out of that job and telling him, "well, I'm going to look for a new job" is kind of lame.
I think this is the young, childless persons "spend more time with family." It is nonthreatening. It also leaves you with the opportunity to come back since you didn't leave your boss with the feeling of you having been "stolen."

I assume that you are quitting a job and need some help.

You don't need an excuse to quit a job.

That is your business. Just give them 2 weeks notice to be proper don't just leave.

To give your notice just tell your Boss one of the following......

I will be leaving the company in two weeks because

I am leaving the State or Area.
I have another position.
I need some time off.
or (don't give a reason)

Good Luck

It depends on what type of job and why you want to quit? I would make sure and give atleast 2 weeks notice no matter what type of job it is and if you live in a smaller town or have friends that you work with I would just tell the truth, you will find out in the long run not to ever burn bridges with employers it can came back to bite you in the but!

Once I quit by telling the truth, that there was WAY too much office politics and BS going on.

Another job I took which had the EXACT same political BS problem, I only stayed there 4.5 weeks. I called people on their BS out loud and in person to their face....I don;t think they ever had anyone call them on it before. I ended up just waslking out saying something like "But thats nothing compared to what the boss did the other day..." and let their imaginations run. It was priceless.

Don't give excuses, give the real reason. If you don't like the job, tell them its not for you. If there is a problem, let them know. Just remember to have a backup job waiting or you could be living on the streets in no time.
