I'm not talking about propaganda or biased opinions or any type of bashing or blaming. Tell me about facts and give me sources that can prove that we're fighting for oil. No fighting, name calling, criticizing others answers or other derogitory items. Just the facts and sources to back it up.

Storitman, it's already been proven that the movie had many false statements and things taken out of context. People from the movie, especially military weren't happy the way they were portrayed.

Hello Che, many say it is the only reason we went. I simply want to know what facts they have that prove this.

a kinder, there were WMD's or the UN wouldn't have gone in for inspections. Since the war started, there has also been much evidence that they were there. Just because they were moved or hidden, doesn't mean they didn't exist. Also, Saddam was the one with huge stashes of money found. Money that his people needed, yet they lived in horrible conditions and if they rebelled, they were killed.

I'm not. I know better than that.

Storitman: Two things. First of all, it's Michael Moore, not Roger. Second, if you believe everything in that piece of propaganda, check out this link:

You'll need Acrobat Reader to read it, as it's a PDF file. It will explain to you how Moore twisted and contorted facts to make things appear different from what they actually are. The author is from the Independence Institute, a non-partisan, non-profit organization, and he voted for Nader in 2000. Can't get more unbiased than that.

Wont have many sources other than a personal source to give. Well, will start off war is money and big business. Even though the economy as a whole is effected by war lots of companies make a lot of money out of it. The oil companies are defenitly profiting out of this war along with a lot of other big business. My personal source is I was over seas for about 18 months recently and ever day our job and this is jump my little team or group let alone the thousands of other people doing it. We were the support for the oil tanker convoys. Everyday we escorted about 18 tanker trucks full of oil from the country over to the coast then came back again to the oil well to transport another group of tankers to the coast and did this for 18 months straight. Not the only ones doing this. So daily no telling how much oil we were shipping dialy. So yes, a lot of this conflict is over the oil we are taking. Odd to, when i came back the gas prices had dramatically gone up and very curious since we are basically jus using the oil we took from the country over there so we should be in surplus right now not 3 dollars at the pump. Lots of oil companies and some gov officials are making a killing out of this.

Fact - Iraq has oil
Fact - The Bush administration waged war on Iraq against the wishes of the UN and the world.
Fact - There were no WMD's, and everyone knew it.
Fact - Sure Saddam is a bad dude, but so are so many others, yet we don't go invading THEIR countries...

EDIT: Don't anyone think that American oil companies are not making money off of Iraqi oil...they win both ways...they get the oil, AND they get to gouge us for the gas, blaming high prices on things like 'instability' and 'hurricane damage' and 'reformulation' bullsheet...these oil companies are all posting RECORD PROFITS - that's PROFITS, not income...

Who's naive?

I don't have the source as it was in the paper a long time ago but it mentioned that US troops were ordered to patrol an oil rig while a hospital was under attack up the road. I'm not saying oil was the only reason for the war but you would be foolish to say it wasn't a factor.

The big French oil producer Total S.A. takes a lot of oil out of Iraq. Much of goes to Europe although they do sell in the U.S. and even have a refinery on the Gulf. Our troops attempt to secure the refineries against terrorist efforts to destroy them because: #1 - The entire world needs oil, not just Americans. #2 - Oil production sites and refineries aren't environmentally friendly, but they are at their worst when burning. #3 - If they burn, we are further diverted from the war effort while bringing them under control (exactly what the terrorists want) and we have to bring in those "nasty, horrible civilian contractors on open-ended non-competetive contracts" that the liberals are kvetching about, because these contractors are the only ones who are properly equipped and know how to put out oil-well fires.

This war---like any war--is about power. And unfortunately the elected officials we have in power have no common sense or base in reality. I don't understand this war and what we hope to gain from it. It's tragic really, because this has turned into WWIII. Although it isn't officially called that, yet, that is exactly what it is. There are over TWENTY different wars going on in this world at this moment. Probably more. Why? Power.
That's all it comes down to. Power.

You know, I once thought that way myself, but if that is the case....then why is it some places gas is almsot 4$, and we have not made a cent from the oil in Iraq? If we were there for the gas...we would have more, we would not be paying so much at the pumps, and we would not be having to pay so much to be there.....think about it....is logical to disbelieve what some would tell you

u r naive enough to think it's not. In the war against Iraq I think ur government did not find any mass destructive weapons , but American soldiers are still in Iraq torturing the Iraqi prisoners and commit crimes like raping, killing ..etc.
I don't think they r tending to leave Iraq don't tell me it's for keeping security in the country, they are the source of all the mass.

What do you feel this war is about, then, and why is your opinion any less naive than that of someone who feels it IS about oil?

You fram the question as if OIL is the only thing we went to war for in Iraq. It's not. It's one, among many, of the things we went to war for.

http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level_imports/current/import.html
Look at this. its the top 15 countries we get oil from.
Iraq is number 6, with 1/3 the amount compared to what we get from canada, ya canada is the number one supplier of oil, not the arabs. then its mexico. then comes saudi arabia.
Between all the arabs combined, we dont get as much oil as we get from mexico and canada combined.
Then add in what we make ourselves, and you find out the truth, that the US gets 75% of its oil from north america, and mexico and canada are self sufficient.
