I just recently got a dvd burner installed, but now I need to know how to transfer the dvd info to a computer and then to a blank disc to burn. I am a computer novice unfortunatly.

Are you trying to copy a DVD? If so, the best way to start is to do a little reading. Doom9 and videohelp.com are great places with tutorials and links to all the software you need (see links below).

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:

1) Almost all DVD's are copyright protected.
2) Copying DVD's in most cases is not legal, so you need to decide what to do. In some cases, making a backup of a personally owned DVD is legal.
3) Most DVD's are about 8.5GB and you will need another 4.7BG of space to work with. So make sure you have about 13BG free hard drive space.
4) Even if you have a very fast machine, backing up will probably take a long time if you have to re-encode the video.
5) For best quality, don't run any other programs on your machine while you are backing up.
6) MOST IMPORTANT: There are TONS of places on the Internet that will sell you copy software. A lot are junk. Using the links on Doom9 and videohelp will get you FREE software and do a great job.

try installing nero 6 and then you can run the DVD burner, best to get someone with you to show you how as there are many different files and formats to consider when burning to a disk. Sometimes when burning movies you first have to decrypt them and shrink them to fit on a standard disk, you will need to get DVD decrypter from the net and install this to decrypt brought movies....Another good one is DVD shrink, another way ....no that's enough I may end up confusing you....GOOD LUCK

The best burning software around is Nero, and it often comes bundled with new burners. If you want to back up DVD movies you own, get yourself AnyDVD from Slysoft, which allows you to copy these to blanks. Their CloneDVD will reduce the size so it will fit on one single sided blank (for movies on double layered discs). They have 21 day free trials. Works like a charm.

Did you not get some software with the DVD burner? I presume you have had this installed in a PC?
