CD-R are write-once CDs
CD-RW are re-writable CDs.
That means that if you use a CD-R, you can write only as long as its capacity is filled, or you "close" it - that is, make it so further writing is impossible. If you use multi-session, you can add up files later, up to the capacity.
If you are using a CD-RW, you can do the same as can be done on a CD-R, but you can also erase the disc and start as if you have a new CD-R (the old data is lost). CD-RW are convenient for temporary storage (or at least were, until USB sticks became so cheap); CD-R are convenient for a more permanent storage, such as back-up, because they cannot be erased.

Yeah like you said there the CDRW means you can put stuff on a cd and then keep burning more things onto it. But you can only put files on a CD-R once!

CD-R stands for Recordable CD this means you can write to it once and those files are permanently on there.
CD-RW stands for Rewritable CD this means you can delete things off it, write over files and add new files to it.

CD-R's are single-burn only. You only get to put data/tracks on it once. After that, if you attempt again (say you didn't use up all of the space before) you won't be able to.
CD-RW's are re-writable. Think of them as floppy discs, but with much, much more space. You can save and delete files/tracks from it as much as you like. these are best used for data files, like word docs etc.

CD-R or CD Recordable can be written once. What I mean is that once you write data onto it, it becomes permanent. But a CD-RW can be erased and new data can be written for about 50 times. 100 times if you take good care of that disk.

CDRW = Compact Disk ReWrite. (disks you can write time and time again.)
CD-R = Compact Disk Recordable (record information to it once.)
when a CDR is burnt, it is damaged with the information & cannot be repaired.
when a CDRW is burn't it is also damaged with information, but it CAN be repaired by blanking the disk & starting again.

You can write to CD-R's as many times as you want. However, you can't play or use CD-R's until you close them. Once you close them, they cannot be written over again. CD-RW's can be written to as many times as you like and can be played without being closed. CD-R's are good for information you need to keep, or want to keep, CD-RW's are good for information you need for a short time.
Again, you can write to CD-R's as many times as you like until you close them. But you can't read a CD-R until it is closed. CD-RW's can be written to and read as many times as you like, no closing, and no worrying about not being able to read it.

CD-R: copy files once, can't delete.
CDRW: copy files as many times as you want and you can delete them as well.

CD-R's can only be burnt to once where as CD-RW's can be used over and over again. Unless you scratch it or something. . . obviously
