The Israelis responded to attacks by the Lebanese militia Hezbollah. They were once an unrecognised terrorist organisation but were recently voted into power in Lebanon.
Lebanon is not entirely muslim, there are many christians there.

The history of the middle east is long and bloody.
After the 2nd world war Jewish people who had survived Nazi vitimisation decided they wanted a country of their own. They had not had one for over 2000 years. The Romans conquered Israel before Christ and jews moved out around the world (the diaspora)
Unfortunatley there were already people living in the country they claimed, the Palestinians (also many christians as well as muslims)
The jews did to them what had been done to them- they displaced them and those who remained have increasingly been persecuted.
Since then Israel has fiercely defended its borders supported financially by the USA amongst others

the middle east has a very long and brutal history and to try and explain in a few short sentences is imposible. But as I see it, basically on this occasion Hezbollah attacked Israel and Israel is defending itselft although we are being led to believe that Israel started it on this occasion.

There is a bit of land inbetween Lebanon and Israel that Syria have a claim on and Israel are keen to get there hands. Hezbollah are a terrorist group that operate from Lebanon and Hamas are a terrorist group operating in Palastine both fight against Israel.

Now, poor Lebanon are cought up as this is where Hezbollah operate from and THEY really should have sorted Hezbollah out ages ago in order to stop future wars on their land but they didn''t and now are right in the **** because of them.

All this has been fortold in the Bible and it may be God's will that all this just has to happen.

Hope this helps but if you are really interested in understanding more there are plenty of quality newspapers and books available as it is a really interesting issue.

Be it the middle east or Asia, these people have been fighting for as long as anyone can remember and the intervention of the west only gives them another enemy, the sooner the two buffoons Bush and Blair realise this the better.

They've been fighting there, since at least the 1940s, when the Zionists horned their way in and shoved people off the land, in between the killing, raping, burning, bulldozing houses and farms, torturing and imprisoning of their enemies--the people already there...
Apologists for the Zionists always chant the same mantra: "They're defending themselves!" --Apparently, they prefer to bury their heads in the sand, and not tell it like it is.

Because they do not know how to do anything else. They have been fighting and killing each other for thousands of years. Anyone who believes that we can stop this in our lifetime is ignoring 3-4000 years of history.
