This question cannot be answered, because too little information is provided. However, in 1961, the most popular Cadillac was the Fleetwood, utilizing a 390 c.i. OHV V8. Assuming you want to replace this engine with the same engine (you never specified what engine you are replacing, and with what you to replace it with), you could be looking at more than $8,000 (as they do not readily produce this engine anymore). If you wanted to convert it over to a more universal engine, such as the 396, 402, 403, or even the 455 Rocket, it would cost you a bit less. In the neighborhood of about $4,000 - 6,000. Of course, dealer prices are always far exceeding a parts warehouse. I have a friend that is the manager of a warehouse that specifically deals in restoring antique cars (such as 1961 Caddy's), and am waiting for an email back from him about the engine, to see his price and availability. I'll amend this posting when I get the email back.

Um, 390 ci is the only 1961 Caddy engine available in the whole line. Deville was the most popular model, then Series 62, then Fleetwood, then Eldorado in order of production totals.
You can get remanufactured long blocks still. From about $1,600, to $2,200.

If you live in the U.S, you can buy a brand new long block for around $1600.00 which will include all the internal components. Block, pistons, timing chain, cylinder heads, cam & pushrods.
If your not a mechanic you can have your local shop install the new engine and they will transfer all the other components from the old engine like the intake, valve covers, oil pan etc... The best place to purchase your engine in my opinion is the dealer because they usually offer a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty.

A CADILLAC engine depending on the cubic inches run between 1350.00 to 2500.00 for a redone crate engine, there are several places on the web that quote you prices and sizes. just type in the search block rebuilt or new car engine blocks and you will find loads of them

Hard to say...this was in a later period. Is it a 232 v-8? That's really the best caddy engine to have but you can't buy a new one anymore...I don't think. Check the Studebaker supply companies with websites. That's your best bet...good luck.
