The process was very gradual and occurred for two reasons, neither of which was a loss of gravitational force. The gravity remains constant as long as mass remains constant, and Mars has not lost that much mass to account for any loss of atmosphere. In fact, the only net loss of mass really was in the form of atmospheric gases, so obviously that was not the cause.
Mars has less gravity than Earth because it is smaller. Since it's rotational period is very similar, the centrifugal forces are similar as well. This lower gravity with similar rotation gradually allowed atmospheric material to be released into space. That lead to the thinner atmosphere. The lack of water is combined with this because the thinning atmospher could trap less heat, and combined with the further distance from the Sun, this lead to temperatures too low to support liquid water at the surface. There is ice at the poles, and some evidence of underground aquifers, but the Spirit and Opportunity probes have found evidence of liquid water in the distant past on Mars.
I hope this helped, and was not too technical for you. The short version is that Mars is too small and cold to keep its atmosphere and water.

Mars never lost its Gravitational force. It is constant.Wht ur talking abt is the MAGNETIC FIELD of the Mars which is lost by the Mars.
As u may be aware of the Earth is also weakening its Magnetic Field.
Wht happened with Mars is the same.Mars has harboured life on it before the earth came into existence with Life.Due to the less size & weak gravity on Mars,(when Iam telling weak gravity its mean the Mars has gravity weak when it was made since the time of Birth of all Planet Hence the gravity is still the same for Mars today also.) The less amt of volcanic activity in the inner core it lost its Magnetic field its atmosphere, then the destruction came frm Sun the "Solar storm".Due to the Lost of Magnetic field & atmosphere which protects living being on planet frm Solar storms the life on Mars vanished soon.
The Earths Magnetic field is weakening because it is going to flip in any time i.e the direction on compass will face North to the South and South to the north. It is very long to explain now.
You got ur answer.

Indeed, the atmosphere of Mars dissapear because of its magnetic field. But magnetic field didn't get weaker with time. Mars didn't have magnetic field from the beginning. Because of it's composition. Is a smaller planet, and don't have a iron nucleus to rotate and produce magnetic field. Other planets and satelites have no magnetic field too.
Every planet have at the beginning an atmosphere, smaller or bigger. Mars has lost it billion years ago (about 2 or 3).
We don't know if life existed on Mars. But we know there was liquid water. A loooong time ago. When the atmosphere slowly dissapeared, water did it too. It evaporated or freezed. Cause with an atmosphere with so low pressure, it can't be liquid. Even if the temperature is 20 degrees Celsius, which it happen often.

Mars gravity has always been 1/3 of Earth gravity, it did not have Earth gravity long ago and then loose it. We still do not know how Mars lost so much water and air, but it seems reasonable that with 1/3 gravity it would only be able to hold on to what it had 1/3 as well as Earth could.

OK, here is the short version...The gravitational field (magnetic field) weakened over a long period of time. (like they speculate Earth's is currently doing) This was protecting the planet from damaging surges that are continually sent from the sun.
As these bombardments continued, the atmosphere changed and allowed the seas to evaporate and any life to disappear forever.
Again, that is the short layman's version.

Mars never lost its gravity?????? It has mass so it has gravity. Forensic evidence that water may have existed at one time, still no evidence that life ever existed there.
