Could be a worn rubber bush in one of the engine mounts (probably the torque-reaction rod, sometimes called the rear mount), or a broken mount / reaction rod. In this case, whatever is worn/broken must be replaced.
Or it could be something less drastic that has moved, and fouls the normal movement of the engine when starting off from standstill. Might be a simple matter to fix, might not be, or might even be something that does no harm other than making a noise.
I can't tell for sure without looking.

I had a similar problem with a different car - it turned out to be a bearing on the prop shaft. However, consider also a wheel-bearing - a broken ball-bearing will cause this especially at low speed.
Insufficient information to give better advice - but do consult AA or RAC or similar, or your local garage without delay, as a clanking sound indicates wear or damage to a moving part, and potentially can lead to an expensive breakdown, an motor accident ... or worse.

Sounds like a loose exhaust bracket. Crawl underneath and shake everything around. Also check motor mounts. Look at the engine while someone else attempts to accel with e-brake on....stand to the side while they do this. Look the engine over to be sure that it doesn't rock too far. If it acts like it's going to roll out of the chassis, then you'll have a broken motor mount. Good luck.
