When you go to "fonts" and it says size, instead of using the sizing that is indicated just type in the number you want. Since I am not a techie I can't give you real numbers, but I played around and printed words at 200 and 400. good luck

You can create the sentence/words on Illustrator (graphic designing package), save as a jpg image, and then make it as large as you want by dragging the corner of the text - therefore font sizes are not needed. The print quality should be better too.

You can download Paint.net and use that. Its a freeware beefed up Paint with all the tools you expect from a graphics editor.
It has a text tool, you can turn the letter into a graphic and then make it any size you want.
Type the letter in black ink, use the magic wand to select it, then I think its Edit - transform.

If you have an overhead projector, or can borrow one, you can adjust the size by moving the projector closer or farther away.
