The reason why you don't remember your dreams is because you haven't trained your mind to retain that information. You probably have unconscious memory of the dreams, but it isn't being transferred to consciousness when you wake up. Remembering your dreams can be as simple as telling yourself that you're going to remember your dreams when you wake up. It is like post-hypnotic suggestions, but it really boils down to wanting to remember your dreams.
Do you want to remember your entire dream? If you do you have to make it seem important to your unconscious by focusing more and more conscious attention on trying to remember the details of your dreams. Keep a dream journal beside your bed and upon waking write down what you can remember about your dream, and then try to remember more.
With time you'll be able to remember not just one dream, but an entire sequence of dreams. It is simply a matter of really wanting to remember what you dreamed about. This can lead to the ability to have Lucid Dreams, if you were interested or curious about such things. There are alot of websites on Lucid Dreaming, dream interpretation, and dream psychology. These websites have hundreds of techniques for remembering and even controlling your dreams. Read, study, and learn. Do a google search and you'll find more than enough information to get you started. I'd also suggest purchasing a dream dictionary.

If you don't ever remember your whole dream sometimes, if it is a bad dream your brain may not want to remember it. But if it is good than you may not want to remember it. Sounds weird but your brain chooses what you remember. Another way to remember your dreams are to want to be in them when you realize your dreaming and go back over it in your mind. Might be hard, but it works for my dreams.

Dreams are snippets of unconscious thought. You go in and out of REM sleep so u go in and out of dreaming too. You have not just one but many dreams a night. Don't try too hard and keep a pad and pencil by your bedside and when u wake up write down what you remember.

If you smoke pot you wont remember your dreams, not that I'm accusing you of that. We normally dream early hours in the morning during r.e.m. If you sleep past this stage of sleeping, it is likely you wont remember your dreams. If you wake up during r.e.m(rapid eye movement) you are more likely to remember your dreams. Try setting your alarm 1 or 2 hours before you normally wake up and you might remember something.
