It is really getting on my nerves along with those who keep asking what rhymes with orange or what does RSVP stand for. Do these people live in vacuums?

Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!!! This fad drives me up a wall, I can't stand it. Speak English Please!! I think they do live in vacuums or are very young and haven't lived long enough to know things like what RSVP stands for. Thanks for letting me vent, I feel so much better...

I think it could sometimes be an indication of interest, eagerness, and enthusiasm about responding. The person might have worked very hard to find an answer to your question and is now thinking "Okay, I've figured this out, so now I need to tackle the task of explaining it clearly." The person may then start writing his/her explanation using the first word that was part of his/her thinking. And the first word of his/her thinking is the word okay. Also, I think the word okay has an affirming quality that people who may be new at answering questions (and want so much to do well at) may find comforting.

PS: Concerning another question of yours, I thought your question, comments, and explanation about people in their seventh decade were very interesting. I was pleased to learn from them. But then, I didn't agree with everything you said, so I added a comment to your question. Wanted to respond to you via email rather than by the comment feature (because you might not go back to see comments), but you appear to have set up your profile not to allow that.

Ok. For starters, it's nice to see someone on Yahoo Answers that knows how to write a complete, coherent sentence and question.

I for one am tired of this "fad" of not using the shift key and typing "wht r u doing rite now?" instead of using proper English. Okay?

Okay, so I think the answer is....

No, sorry. Honestly, it's just a new twist in language. Remember when 'like' came into common usage and was used 5 times in one sentence? This is the same thing. Roll with the punches, like okay? :) Sorry, couldn't resist.
