There is a product called "Goo Gone". It works SO quickly and easily. Some will say peanut butter, some will say ice, but I've tried all of them and Goo Gone works WAY better than peanut butter or ice.
You can buy it at Walmart or Target or K-mart. Maybe even Walgreens or CVS.
Plus, the Goo Gone doesn't leave a second mess to clean out of the carpet like peanut butter does. And ice doesn't always get it all.

ice cubes or frozen peas. Leave until gum hardens and then pick off. If this does not work you can buy a solution from most hardware stores that removes gum from anything. Good luck.

After you remove the big stuff using some of the other suggestions, you may go after the remainder with 'Goo Gone' which you can buy at most stores.
Unfortunately there is no 'easiest' way, but in the future remember NOT to let it set and dry. The fresher a spot of anything, the easier and completely it is to remove.

If ice doesn't work for you , peanut buitter will. Rub it in, the gum will disintigrate. Then use mild soap and water and a cloth (or a carpet cleaner) to remove the peanut butter.

if you can move the carpet, put it in the freezer for a while, then the chewing gum is much eaiser to get off.
