Yeah, I do place some emphasis on looks because when I see a guy, the that's the first thing I see, if he doesn't have a nice personlity then that's the end of that!
I fell in love with someone I wasn't physically attracted to, I thought he was a nice guy (turned out to be an *** but hey, you live and learn!)

It sounds like the people to whom you refer are in fact morons. I never mind if someone says nice things about my eyes, face, or whatever.
The eyes may be just organic matter, but if you have gazed into the right eyes, you'll know how much more they can be. It has been said that the eyes are the windows to the soul.
By the way... nice eyes!

Beautiful eyes, it sort of sounds better than. Wow, what a great pair of ****! Eyes are not just organic matter, they are a doorway to the soul. You can tell a lot looking someone straight in the eye. A guy to guy thing is assertive if not aggresive and a guy to girl eye contact can be very inimate. Hell go back to your biology books. But give me top answer first. lol

I guess the answer lies in little things, you are a good looking guy, why do you get your hair cut? People appreciate beautiful things whether they are man made or god given- its just natural. Why do peacocks puff up their tails to attract a mate? I think its a matter of attraction- something has to entice you to take the next step of getting to know a person- if they are across the room- it isnt going to be the way they smell, or feel, or taste, so the only sense that is left to be stimulated is sight...

Have you heard the saying, "Eyes are the windows to the soul"? When I look into someone's eyes I see more than the color. I see warmth, humor, compassion, happiness, passion, confidence, sorrow, hate, cynicism, sarcasm, hurt, ridicule, and sometimes a guarded, brick wall. All of these are non-physical qualities that either attract or repel me to/from that person. It has nothing to do with the organic matter but how they use it to communicate.

The eyes can show what people feel and some people believe it is the window to the soul so they might just be saying that if they believe that that is true but from my perspective they do sound hypocritical.

Sorry - but unless you're blind you can't help but notice if one is attractive - just as you can't help but notice the colour of the skin or hair. It's when you go on to discover the depth of the soul that gives you the quality! Many good looking people are utter misfits, and after a while, you don't really notice what the person looks like.

They're being honest. The first thing you'll notice will hardly be how good the persons heart is as walking up to a person, you don't know them. Before you speak to a person there's rarely a connection beyone physical attraction.

I think a lot of people do immediately look at someones face, hence the reference of eyes etc.

no they aren't being hypocritical, they just think that pointing out others flaws is mean spirited, while pointing out their good qualities is nice... i do agree that it is still superficial, but theyare trying not to tear someone down.
btw i know i'm too superficial and it's not a good thing....lol
