I've got two computers using XP, one Pro, one Home. The Home is connected directly to my router at 100Mb. The Pro is connected through 802.11g and runs anywhere between 36Mb and 54Mb. I'm transferring 140GB of data from Pro to Home, and my network utilization never gets above 30%. Is there anything I can do to speed this up?

Both have static IPs, if it makes a difference.

Both computers already have 1GB of DDR RAM. I'm looking for a software-only solution here.

i had the same problem first i used to copy and past the files from the root folder to my network places/destination folder. but this needs file and printer sharing. if this doesnt work change the cables. put new cables of the same type eg if its utp then change to utp and also make sure you have identical NIC's, it really makes a difference in LAN especially onboard NIC's they are damn slow

you also have to consider your HD's buffer and write speeds. if you are moving that much data, id ftp it over night, should be done the next day. or see if you can put the wireless computer on ethernet while you do the transfer. 100Mbps is way better than 36.
