When Im driving at over 30mph my front right wheel starts humming. What could it mean. Do I need the tires rotated, the rotor checked, any ideas.

If I am in a right turn it stops humming, if Im in a left turn it hums louder.

Its a 1996 VW Golf in pretty good condition and just over 100K miles.

Thanks

You've got a bad wheel bearing. It will need to be replaced IMMEDIATELY. You will need to remove the hub, press the bearing out....press a new bearing in.....replace the wheel bearing seals and reassemble. Maybe 200 bucks at a shop. Good luck.

the wheel bearings don't normally fail on the driven wheels of a car because they are very large and durable, check the rotors, both sides. its possible that the worn out pads are rubbing on the rotor.

Check the tire tread depth, needs to be at least 1.6mm, there are some wear bars that run across most tires that make a noise when the car is being driven, can u see those?

deffinatly wheel bearing its not loose or bad tire or rotor rubbing bearing needs to be pressed in it is really 2 bearings in 1 thats why the sound changes when you turn it changes the load from one to the other

this isnt usally a do it yourself job as it requires some special tools
a grinder and a press if you have them let me know ill give you how toos

absolutely a wheel bearing. should probably have both replaced. Usually when one goes bad the other is soon to follow.
