im a young teen and i just moved into a new house 1 or 2 years ago. i have convinced myself that there are ghosts here and people waiting around the corner with a knife and the intention to kill me and people staring through the window. once someone tried to steal a fake tree thats on our front porch but it was too heavy for them to pick up. it was moved about 3 inches away from where it was. since then i have benn terrifed to walk through my house at night and sometimes at day. i jump at every noise i hear except the toliet gurgling. i've gotten used to that cuz my room is next to the bathroom. whats wrong? how can i unconvince myself of these things? and am i too old to be scared of my own house?

WOW! you have a very over active imagination!! So, does Stephen King. Did you know that he has many irrational fears? He is even afraid of the dark!! But, he puts his fears to work!! They feed his imagination and he is able to write some really good books. Maybe you should consider becoming a writer!

You don't say if this is your first time to live in a house on your own. Either way everyone gets jumpy once in a while especially if you are on your own. You can do several things to feel safe.

1. Double check all your locks etc. You can have a police man come and check this for you and advise you even- a friend I know did this.

2. If you have a Neighborhood Watch in your area, join them. They look out for each other's property. Just these two things will make you feel secure .

3. Leave a light in the house open ( dimmed) somewhere just to give the feeling the house is active.

4. You can share your house with a trusted friend.

5. Listen to some soft music or TV till you sleep and leave it playing during the day - this will make you feel comfortable.

6. Invite a group of friends over every so often to give people the impression a lot of people live in the house.

best of luck!

When i was 16 we moved into a new house, And I scared I always thought someone was going to break in and kill me, I even had nightmares, I remember being home alone and locking myself in my mother room with a knife and a bat waiting for someone to come in, and i even went as far as to drag the dresser in front of the door, I would fall asleep every night thinking something is going to happen. I don't know why..But it never went away while i was in that house, when i moved to NY..and in this apt, I never feel like way, and the house was in KY.and it more safe there stereotypically than NY..i think maybe it was the neighborhood, and the house was big and i just couldn't get into it..so i started listing to my headphones to fall asleep, but only when i knew everyone was home, alone I would sit outside on the porch in the day, and at night i would watch TV in my moms room with the dresser by the door...I don't know why..maybe I was in the same boat that you are now, but i got over it, and now i don't worry about that, maybe its because I am now around people I am comfortable with in my new neighborhood..oh and reading is good for it...

First off you have to be getting something out of scarring the whits out of yourself of you wouldn't be doing it. I would take a long look at why you like that adrenalin rush of being scared. I would for sure not encourage that kind of negative thinking in your sister and telling tales like that is just going to continue and feed your own negative thinking. Your mind is a very very powerful thing. If you continue to tell yourself something over and over again eventually it will become true to you. If you have spent the last two years doing this to yourself than it is going to take some time and some effort on your part to undue this negativity.
Try talking to your parents about this or an adult that will listen to you and care about how you are feeling and try and help you get on the right track. It has to be awful being scared all of the time not to mention how incredibly unhealthy it is.
Try reading up on meditation or taking a yoga class so that you can start to control your thinking and turn it towards a more positive direction. It is not your house that you are afraid of Sweetie it is your own thoughts. You have the power to make this go away just like you created it.
Best of luck and much peace to you.

i agree with maryjane237--because i've done the same thing. i used to have a lot of irrational fears and an overactive imagination, so i started writing ghost stories. once they became works of fiction, i was able to put them out of my mind.

short of that, you can try sprinkling salt around the edges of your room and any other rooms that you want to be able to go into at night--salt is a protective agent that keeps out bad spirits. burning white sage (or even just white sage insence) is spiritually cleansing for a room as well.

Well. Think for yourself. What's the worst thing that can happen to you ?

Death ?

Come on.... there's a better life on the other side. So there is nothing to be afraid of in this world.

You only have to be afraid of God.

There is nothing to fear but fear itself. Just try to think of something possitive.

Have a nice day :-)
