On the morning of 12-21-2012, the sun and the dark area of the Milky Way will conjunct at dawn. This is a once in 26,000 year alignment. This shouldn't cause a pole shift.
Anything else I could say involves the Mayan Long Count calendar. Any links I might provide also involve the Maya.
I guess I won't get best answer because I just mentioned them twice. Oh well.

Galactic Alignment??? Not sure where you are getting your information from but I assure you such an event will NOT be happening then, or any other time for that matter.
From the questions you ask, I can tell you have a serious misunderstanding of astronomy and Earth sciences. Magnetic pole reversals cannot be predicted ahead of time...and I can only guess at what a "galactic" alignment is supposed to be. Do you even know what a galaxy is? And what exactly defines this alignment? Please provide more information because I can assure you that professional astronomers (whom I work with) have never heard of it. It sounds more like something that new age mystics have dreamed up.

Galactic alignments have the same impact as palindromic dates - they're mere curiosities. Also, I suspect your "sciencetist" has fudged his data to bring it into alignment with the Mayan calendar.
A glance at a 2000.0 star atlas shows the winter solstice just west of the galactic equator, such that the solstice would have been closest to the equator about 1995. The galactic center is about 5 1/2 ° to the south and about 16 1/2 minutes of RA (Right Ascension) to the west. Thus, the solstice will never coincide with the galactic center, but will be at the same RA in 300 years or so.

Absolutely nothing will happen. If you are not interested in the myths (both from the Mayans and from the New Age Wonks) perpetuated about the end of the Mayan long count calendar, then you are left with asking "is there any sceintific significance of this date"
no.
Check what could be different:
We will statistically be in the exact same gravitational relationship with the galaxy as we are right now and have been for a very long time as the sun orbits out galaxy.
Really this is no diffenent than once a year the orbit of the Earth makes it apear that the sun is in a ceretain pattern of stars. Any alignment is simply the result of the viewing angle of the dun against the background stars - they mean nothing, have no effect on anything.

Supposedly Time Portals Have Been Costruted In The Past right Upto 10000 AD, And People Who Entered These Portals And Returned Back Report That Beyond 2012 There Appears To Be Nothing But A Solid Wall Of some Sort And Nothing Exists Beyond This wall. So a good Chance That Our Lord Jesus Christ will Return At That Date And Everything will Be Made New, And Gods Rule Will Begin.
Pl Note At The Moment Satan Rules But Gods Rule will come.

21 December 2012 could be the approximate summer season solstice interior the southern hemisphere. there'll be a pair of buying days till Christmas and the shop assistants international would be being pushed loopy via Christmas carols on a similar time as the dept shops would be full of final minute shoppers. As customary. Galactic alignment? Alignment of what with what and what else? that's all my eye and Betty Martin. Nonsense, twaddle, drivel, balderdash, cr@p, bull$hit. Promoted to the ignorant via mendacity interest seekers in rubbish television courses and believed in via the paranoid and via imbeciles. Get the photograph? don't have faith each and everything you notice on television. no count if that's on the Fox community, don't have faith something you notice on television.

if only it had been 21-02-2012, i would have understood why this arbitrary date had been chosen to spread a false rumor, but honestly! the 21-12-2012? Nothing's going to happen that day!
Except perhaps a few birthdays...
But even so!
(by the way : nothing will happen on the 21-02-2012 either, it was just a pun)

Pretty much the same thing that has happened on every other galactic alignment in the previous 14.5 billion years of the universe's existence -- nothing special except that they all "line up".
Don't get your knickers all knotted up worrying about it. Even with all the cumulative effects, we won't notice a thing.
