When worn up, in a bad part of town, it's definately for concealment...to hide ones features...especially a suffering drug addict in the throws of detox.

I'm not sure how a hoodie could be used for safety. They are made of sweater material that tears easily and is in no way bullet-proof or knife proof generally.
Hoodies are used for concealment from CCTV cameras during crimes.
However some wear hoodies as a fashion item or for the practicality of keeping warm.

Like 'gallonofpuke' says..learn to spell before you ask a question. As for the question itself, how does a 'hoodie' afford anyone safety then? I should think some kind of hard hat would be more in order, wouldn't you?

the hoodie is actuatly for the individual to hide themselfs from being part of the public to alienate themselve... in reality they are vunerable becuse of it , as you can drag them around by the hood, in the same way you would drag someone by thier long hair. Also thier field of vision is limited.

I thought the concealing was for safety.
Back in the mid-late 80's if you were into the breakdance scene then you wouldn't be seen dead without your hoddie. Back then it was more a fashion statement, today I believe it's for concealing and safety.

hoodies are very comfy! some people coul use them to conceal.
if you are referring to the current media scare regarding hoodies, then consider that the media has always demonized young people and what they wear! its easier to blame it on them than look at the society they sprang from.
