Lets compare the both of them as captains of what they have achieved over the past two seasons.
Steven "Jay-Raad" Gerrard
Liverpool Sucess
2005-06 FA Cup
2004-05 UEFA Champions' League
Indivivual Sucess
2006 PFA Player of the Year
2004–05 UEFA Champions' League Most Valuable Player
John "Jorge" Terry
Chelsea Sucess
FA Premier League (2004-05)
FA Premier League (2005-06)
UEFA Champions League (2004-05)
Indivivual Sucess
PFA Player of the Year (2004-05)
FIFA World Cup squad of the tournament (2006)
You can say John has achieved more, winning a league title is not a joke. UEFA Champions League is a knockout system, so you might say they were lucky to get there. I feel Defenders are better leaders like Beckenbauer, Puyol, Fabio Cannavaro, so and so forth. Even in the eyes of the bookmakers John is leading the race. Please don't get offended Liverpool fans, I'm not a supporter of Chelsea! I'm a supporter of Tottenham.
But in my opinion, if Steven Gerrard is made the captain, it will certainly affect Chelsea players because Lampard has a rivalry with Gerrard and Lampard will always be thinking that "Why the heck he's the Captain, when I'm senior then him and I score more goals?".
Its upto Steve Mclaren, and I'm sure hes a wise coach and will make the right decision.
Good Luck.

Personally I prefer Steven Gerrard. He is such a motivative player and he has shown it in the FA cup final against west ham utd. But I would think that John Terry is a better choice. If you look at deeply you can notice that liverpool's form of play depends on gerrard's form. if he's in top form, the team plays well but if not, so as the team. Whereas in Terry's case, he can be a good captain even on days that he is not in a good shape and chelsea would still be capable of playing a good game. so i think terry's the best choice for the new england's captain

Everyone thinks that Gerrard needs to be the capt, which is definately a good choice, but I think that John Terry Deserves It. You can always count on Terry, he is a rock in there defense, and he has been on the National Team for a minute. You also have to recognize Lampard. I know he didn't have the world cup he would have liked, but he is as good if not better than Steven Gerrard.

John Terry. He's doing such a fine job at Chelsea and commands respect from all English players and the public.
I always like to see a defender as a team captain, ala Cannavaro. As a defender you're able to see all the action on the field and can plan certain attacks to exploit the opposing team's loopholes.

Scouse, i know you would like to see Gerrard at the helm as he is great! His greatest time was in the Euro final against AC Milan right? However i think as a true rugged bossman i would choose Terry from Chelsea. He may not be as flambouyant a player as Gerrard but he has the no-nonsense, back to basics play-style every captain should have. However im sure you can expect to see Gerrard as the deputy!! McClaren has his choice-work cut-out!!

Steven Gerrard because he is a peoples person dedicated to FOOTBALL and will be willing to lead the England team on to bigger and better things. You just look at his career at Liverpool to see their really is no contest. I have nothing against John Terry he will be ok in a few years time when he learns to be a bit more of a peoples person like Stevie

should be the two Terry or Gerrard, the two captains if their very own golf equipment Chelsea and Liverpool respectively. the two have additionally led winning communities, which Beckham has did no longer do. Hmmm - will could circulate with Terry. Too stable as a participant and his overall performance isn't as spasmodic as Gerrard, even however the latter could properly be extra superb.

Stevie G. The Liverpool captaincy caused him to raise his game to it's current stellar level for the club, and I think the England captaincy would have a similar galvanising effect for the country. I don't know if JT's consistent enough, and no one else in the squad has the experience or temperament to be a Leader

John Terry definetly, the rock at the back of Chelsea. Defenders make the best captains thats a fact. If he can lead Chelski to glory, he can lead country to glory too.

Well I think Joe Cole would do a good job. He is a good winger. But I just heard that Gerrard wants to be the captain.
