When a person who once had serious issues with alcohol, drugs, crime, and/or abuse is turned around to live a "reborn" life of recovery, we treat him/her as a hero. But for the person who lived a simple, clean life of honor and respect, each is nearly ignored - like a virtual "nobody." Why does our society hold the "bad guy" in such high esteem?

I think it's because society recognize how the "bad guy" was able to turn his life around. This reminds me of that story in the Bible, the Prodigal Son.
