it's the same rule now, you have to be out of high school for three years. If you are 16 when you graduate, then you can be in the NFL at 19. Age doesn't matter.

"Back in the day", as it goes, players had to be at least 21 to be drafted by the NFL.

In order to get drafted, you have to be out of high school for at least 3 years (or, more correctly, your high school graduating class must have been at least 3 years prior).
