I just dug up my lawn prior to laying a new lawn and garden. Below is a 12mx10m ants nest! How do I get rid of it permanently before laying new lawn and garden? If I put down ant killer, it'll kill these, but they'll presumably be back soon... Ideally, I'd like to avoid using chemicals, and anything that will damage the garden / other animals.

You can mix equal parts borix acid (Borax) with sugar and sprinkle it around the nest. The ants should take the boric acid back to the queen and it will kill her and the nest will die.

The only thing I know about ants is that if you kill them in any kind of way they leave a scent behind that brings the other ants to that spot and things are worst than before. Some one had suggest that I should mix sugar with ant poison and place it far from the house. I really don't know if it works.

well i used to work at the home depot and quite honestly theres this new chemical called bifenthryn (sp) and its a new type of chemical that kills all types of insects and will not harm other pets or children. its safe and is supposed to last a long time. however for the ant nest i would recommend using something separate for the hill and then treat the yard with either the granule or concentrate of the bifenthryn.

You could try pouring a lot of boiling water on it. This will get rid of the ants nest that's there or severely reduce their numbers but i don't think you can get rid of it permanently.

pour dry grits on the ant pile and all around it. Not sure why it works just know that it does. My Grand mother used to pour boiling water over the ant hill as well but not sure if you could do that in one shot with as big as your is, plus it was always a bit distasteful to me. Good luck with it though.

put a hose at least 6'-10' underground and pump in boiling water.
You need to get the queen to stop the nest from re-populating in a few days, and she's usually about 6' under,in the center of the nest.pull the hose up slowly as you pump in the water.

got to kill the queen. they red or black. where you live? if their bite and/or sting, if they have one, doesnt harm you, go the direct wayy and excavate teh nest and find that blt€h and kill her. She'd be the one thats 3-5 times bigger than the rest. or find some good ant poison that the ants share with the queen so that she eats it and dies.

OR....i got it i got it............drill a hole into the nest , place some explosive and destroy that thing. that would be SO fun, outside of having ants everywhere in a quater mile radius.

12 meters by 10 meters? That's not large, it's huge. I doubt you can get rid of that without contacting professional exterminators.

A nest that large likely has multiple queens, so even if you get one, the others will still be there, and the nest will regroup and reform.

Contact the Israel Airforce for a napalm strike of the area.
