Two ways. You could develop the site yourself, or get someone to help you out with the online site.

You could use this approach to create the site:
1. Requirement Definitions
2. Designing
3. Development
4. Testing
5. Integration

Stage 1 is where you gather the requirements for the website, like what would be the purpose for the site, how would you perceive the site to work out like, and how should the site flow from page to page.

Stage 2 is the designing phase, where the developer would come up with the system's design (database //if needed//) and the designer would design the GUI - graphical user interface (the "look and feel") of the site.

Stage 3 is the development of the entire site. This is where the coding is done, all the layout design and website programming.

Stage 4 test out.

Stage 5 implement it. :)

Then go through the process again for any upgrades you may want to include.

---

These would be the minimal things you would need to go through to get started in the website:

- Web domain
This is where you think of the name of the site. Like www.yahoo.com, or etc. A domain name can be purchased at around US$8.00 a year at http://www.godaddy.com/

- Web hosting
This is where the website's files are stored. There are lots of hosting solutions where you can find online. There are some which are free, but most of them costs at least a dollar per month *for 50mb. One site which I got my stuff hosted on is at http://www.3ix.org

- Tools
Which website designing tools would you be using? You can find some great free software or demo software from http://www.download.com.

Those would be the few things which you can take note of.

Note that there are many solutions that are already provided online like Shopping Carts, Calender tools, and even Blogging site (as in you personally host the blog aka WordPress http://www.wordpress.org/). Some web hosts do provide free scripts which you can use in your online site.

I guess this should help you get started. Don't have to get intimidated by all huge words and codings and all that. :)
Let your passion inspire you on for the first hurdle.

All the best to fulfilling your vision!

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Starting an Online Business For Dummies, 4th Edition by Greg Holden
* How to Start and Maintain A Successful Online Business by Kelly Thornton
* The Complete E-Commerce Book: Design, Build, and Maintain a Successful Web-Based Business by Janice Reynolds

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

you need a domain name, a website host, an html editor, and enough knowledge to write the website.

after that you need to learn how to promote the website.
