I am a Malay working in a Chinese dominated company; whereby colleagues prefer to speak in Mandarin or dialects. Often enough, i caught them speaks bad about me behind my back. My managers are equally the same as others.

People are always going to talk about you behind your back. It is a fact of life. There are a couple of ways to handle this. You can ignore it, which gets frustrating and can stress you out. Another thing you can do, which is alot more fun, is you can be flattered that they have nothing better than to think of you. Those poor people. Their lives are so boring that they need to talk about someone as exciting as you. Don't get hurt. BE PROUD! You are a wonderful person. They are just jealous about how great you are.

Confronting the very managers who are being unprofessional and speaking badly of you is a very slippery slope. Too often, they are the ones who determine your fate at the company. If your direct manager is not involved, speak to them. If they are, go to their direct supervisor. Good luck. If it is a good job with good pay, my theory was always that I was not there to make friends, but to do a job and get a paycheck. You don't say whether they are speaking ill of your work habits or personal stuff. Whichever, if you cannot work in that environment, stand up for yourself or find a new job.

Don't dignify it...ignore it. Show up...do the best work you know how to do...leave...and forget it. Eventually, they will find something new to talk about it. As for your managers, they should know better....but often don't. Look for different work when you can...be polite...say "Yes" and then do what you must. Remember that family is more important...and you must earn a living until you can find something better...or until they pick on someone else.

It is rude if they do this in a foreign language, but most managers are jerks.

All managers are this way. Everywhere.
