I think you are thinking about istanbul which is the former capital of turkey, however the modern capital is Ankara which probably means that no current capital city spans two continents

Actually Istanbol is the only proper name, Constanonple is the FORMER name. That would be like saying about St. Petersburg in Russia, which was at one time Leningrad if I have the right city.

If you count Guam and the Pacific Islands as part of Asia, then the United States and Washington DC qualifies as a correct answer, though it wasn't the first.
