I typed three lines on Wordpad to see if the printer works. It printed out two lines and then faded out. Would someone please help me?

Fading out sounds like the ink is going dry. You will need more ink.

But if you HAVE new ink, and it is not printing, you may need a new printer. I recommend that you run off to STAPLES and get a Canon. Thy have the best color and best reliability. Their cartridges are the lowest price, and have separate color cartridges, so you don't waste color when just one runs out. Another feature is that the PRINTING stops when it is time to change a cartridge. When you change the cartridge, it resumes where it left off, and you can't tell where it stopped.
Be sure that you know what cable that you already own.

What type o printer is it? Did the test page fade? It could be that the cartridges are dirty or jammed - happens when they haven't been used. Try looking at the FAQ'a in the manual or try the following

Go to the START MENU
Control Panels
Printers
Right click on your printer and select Properties
Go to the service tab and select Clean my Cartridge

(your tabs may be slightly different, but look around until you get the clean my cartridfe option)

This should solve your problem.

The ink may have run out or the print head needs cleaning. How about running the utility in your printer software and try cleaning the printer head? If it does not work, then the ink most likely has run out.
