Or, to what extent do you think there should be a world government?

Most countries value their autonomy over the benefits of a world government. Besides, the only ones who truly benefit from a world government would be those less powerful, while the more powerful would have to relinquish some of that power in favor of the new government. Most powerful societies only want a world body when it will aid their own interests.

No.

There have been two attempts at world government in the 20th century. The first was the League of Nations, whose charter prevented it from doing anything significant or effective. The second was / is the United Nations, which is a much bigger organization, and therefore does much more of nothing, but threatens to do something, and allows many truly ineffective people to make a living doing nothing.

No nation on Earth would give up enough of its own present level of freedom / autonomy, so that a world government would work. Which means that the only way to get a world government is for one nation to conquer all of the others, and that has never happened, and won't.

Certainly NOT!

The bigger any organization, corporation, or government grows, the less manageable it becomes, and the fewer people benefit from it.

Look around you: big governments are all incompetent and corrupt. The United States if the prime example of how big government is inefficient, ineffective, and inaccessible. We're supposed to be a democracy, where the people hold all the power. Instead, we're a reckless republic where the people have elected representatives to govern. Power corrupts; hubris becomes commonplace; arrogance and avarice takes over.
In the past fifty years, the Republicans and Democrats have maintained a stranglehold on America's political system.

Imagine if that kind of choke-hold settled into a global government? It would be total chaos and absolute anarchy all over the world (which we have enough of already). -RKO-

no, this would not have the world government

United Nations are rules the world, but the UN has the least powers, and has the countries worked together to rules the peace. The UN are most successful until today. One country are not allows to share the power with another country.

In the future, there would be no country government, but would have the world government, its in Earth. They would form new world government are Parliament that we would vote the president to limit 5 years.

I would think we would be better off with more smaller governments. Governments that are actually in touch with their people. If you had some way to stop all the wars, greed, jealousy and insecurities governments and people have this would be a perfect world...not going to happen. I dont think having one government for the whole world will solve this.

Were on the verge of world government. It's an epidemic. Thanks to the UN, CFR, and European Union. World government just seems so close. Thats a great thought isn't it. Any American that thinks world government is a good thing needs to drink a glass of gas. This is the worlds evil. I don't think that there should be any such thing.

National governments screw things up because of a combination of corruption and being out of touch with the people. Do you really think a world government would do a better job? The larger the perview, the more inefficient government becomes. Things are bad enough, lets not make them worse!

Thats a good Idea but I personally think its not possible for obvious reasons like cultural differences. There is a world government called the UN.Only thing is its not possible by the people of the world to vote for the leaders who represent their country. That right resides with the government of the country.I think its a good Idea but not possible,Atleast for now.

If a one world government were actually necessary to bring about peace in the majority I would say yes. However its really not necessary and the chances of the rulers of said government becoming corrupt power junkies is too great.
