Not sure that you would be using an "excuse"; if there is no air conditioning in your office or it is unreasonably hot to several people, then every person who feels it is too hot should report it to their manager, and if the manager does nothing about it, to HR, as it is possible for people with any sort of sweating or glandular problem to die from heatstroke. If you are on any heart, blood pressure or anti-psychotic medication, to name a few, you could fall under that category. Just recently a 25 year old woman who was on anti-psychotic meds died in her home that had no air conditioning and the cause of death was determined to be heatstroke because the meds did not allow her to sweat.

Dang, they should at least put a few fans in the office!

Most importantly, document who you talk to and notify, when and what was discussed. If you get terminated, then you have grounds to fight your dismissal. No job is worth dying for!

Know the feeling - I work in a hospital and the evil directors keep the air con for the patient areas only - how rude!

Anyway, something along the lines of 'I'm not doing any work anyway, just messing around on the internet and I could do that in my own garden' might work :-)

As you're lying about the room temperature you're probably lying about losing the will to live, and that's a shame!

that is super sad, that your cheap company won't invest in central air. it's been so hot where i live that the devil lounges in my kitchen, so you have to be miserable. a good excuse to leave - fake a fainting spell
